Chosing an outside physician by detainees

Hello,

I’ve read this page on your website and I guess I can ask a question without introducing myself. My husband is currently detained. He had serious health problems before and currently being detained. Now he needs a specialized medical help which is not available in the prison. I’d like to know if he can apply to other than prison medical service?

Let me thank you first for your question and inform you that you are free to ask any question without introducing yourself.

I can guess that your husband is in an Armenian criminal-executive entity. For Armenia, it is possible to get an outside medical service for a prisoner.

According to the Article 5 of the Law on Medical Care and Service of Population of the Republic of Armenia, everyone has the right to choose the person who will carry out his/her medical care and service. In addition, according to the Article 13 of the Law on Treatment of Arrestees and Detainees of the RA, an arrested or detained person has the right to get a treatment of a physician without any delay; also the right to medical aid choosing his/her preferred physician and covering all the expenses himself/herself.
