Palliative Medicine Curriculum

The Initiative group of Palliative Medicine/Care are pleased to invite you to apply to participate in seminar on the Palliative Medicine Curriculum, to be held in April from 26th-28th, 2010 at Conference hall of “Muratsan” University Hospital, Yerevan, Armenia.

The Palliative Medicine Curriculum is open-access, free to disseminate and easily adaptable to patients with cancer and other advanced illnesses.

Goal

The main goal of the seminar is to provide practicing clinicians with information about palliative medicine/care in patients with life threatening diseases, and to educate participants in order they can implement their newly gained knowledge of palliative medicine/care in their daily practice. We invite all physicians who interested in palliative medicine/care in patients with life threatening diseases, chronic neurologic disorders, and chronic decompensated conditions to take part in our Curriculum.

Number of participants is limited!

At the conclusion of the course, All attending participants will be given certificate!

The conference will be held in English.

Translation will be provided to all materials and lectures into Armenian.

Faculty members and Speakers are:

• Dr Prof Anthony M. Smith MA, MB, B Chair, FRCS-Ed, Cert Med Ed - head of faculty members
• Dr Prof Jany Haddad, MD, FRCS (Glasgow)- Founder and President of ACMA; Onco-surgeon
• Dr Andrea M. Stevens MB BS FRCP FRCR - senior oncologist and
• Mrs. Gerry Lacy - B.A. R.G.N. - senior nurse in Palliative care

Who Should Apply

Physicians in the following disciplines are eligible to apply: primary care, internal medicine, Geriatrics, public health, oncology (medical oncologists, Radio-therapists, Onco-surgeons), hospice and palliative medicine, family medicine, psychologists, psychiatrists and HIV/AIDS care takers and pediatricians

Course Content

The course will include both interactive plenary and workshop sessions that cover:

• Introductions and Assessment I and II
• What are palliative care and palliative medicine? And why? 
• Meeting the Whole Person Needs
• Introducing Your Patients
• Assessment of Patients’ Needs (including pain)
• Pain Control 1 and 2
• Communication and Listening Skills
• Listening to our Patients
• Managing Other important Symptoms: Bleeding, Confusion, Nausea & Vomiting Breathlessness and more
